iTunes Review

In their all-too-brief career in the mid to late ‘60s, Cream defined the “power trio.” By combining old-school blues with then current psychedelia and embracing the advancements in sound technology, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker forged a bludgeoning sound that drove audiences to hysteria and inspired future generations to solo beyond the pain threshold. While their musical virtuosity was indisputable, it was the band’s songs that gave them lasting power. Their second album, Disraeli Gears, features several classic rock radio staples that have become standard operation for emerging guitar players worldwide: “Strange Brew,” “Sunshine of Your Love,” “SWLABR” and “Tales of Brave Ulysses.” Those alone would be reason to take note, however, Gears also includes other overlooked pleasures. “World of Pain” and “Blue Condition” exhibit the band’s softer side, while “Dance the Night Away,” though hardly the dancefloor concoction its title implies, evokes a night of lava lamp gazing.

Pure Rock and Roll

by Ruben Castro

Definitely one of the best albums ever recorded in gerneral. Disraeli Gears features Eric Clapton (which I say at his best) on Guitar/Vocals, Ginger Baker on drums and Jack Bruce on bass/vocals. Not only was Clapton one of the band's well known members, Bruce influenced many upcomming bassists from that time on. Ginger Baker also being a very talented jazz drummer, would provide this album with an original type of rhythm you wouldn't hear elsewhere in rock and roll. I mean put it this way... combine Clapton's supernatural blues-playing abilities with the originality and intensity of Bruce's bass lines and lyrics (along with Brown), backed up with a strong and jazzy feel manipulated by none other than Baker and you get Cream. This band is one of rock's geniuses, and although they lasted roughly only 3 years, they placed their name in Rock's Hall of Fame. Powered by blues and blended perfectly with a psychadellic emotion, Cream would rise to be one of rock and roll's greatests (along with The Jimi Hendrix Experience). Disraeli Gears is pure rock and roll. I love every song on this entire album, with "Strange Brew", "Tales of Brave Ulysses", and "Outside Woman Blues" as my top three personal favorites of this album, every track is unique and a favorite of mine in its own way. I'm only 17, but I wish more than anything I could go back and experience Cream live. Fresh Cream, Wheels Of Fire and Goodbye are all amazing as well, Disraeli Gears being my favorite.

A fantastic albiumo.sexy.
