Intelligent AND catchy

Apparently, the band itself does not think highly of this album but I think that it's BRILLIANT. Every song is catchy due to fantastic hooks and pouncing lyrics. The music will catch you but the lyrics reel you in. Hungarian Love Song, Who Loves You Now, and Nothing Special are particularly good. Sadly, the song South America, which is on the CD, is not included on this iTunes album release.

Gentlefolk Forever!

This was the first Jazz Butcher record that I had the pleasure of owning. Angels and Buffalo Shame stands out as favorites, but the whole record is brilliant. From the "easy-lazy-Sunday-afternoon" opening guitar riff of Falling in Love to the last lingering echoes of the final chorus of Angels, Pat Fish (The Jazz Butcher) and company deliver a solid mix of jazz-chord alternative pop with a tongue-in-cheek undercurrent lyrical element. Sad to see that the whimsical South America was not included here.

Nonetheless there is an equal mix of upbeat tunes and easier numbers that blend into an cleverly catchy and quickly infectious album that will certainly provide hours of enjoyable repeted listening.

Fish was born Patrick Huntrods in London...
