New Take On Old Tunes!
Beautiful, progressive and alternative arrangements on some very old tunes. Selections that really stand out are McLachlan's " I Heard The Bells, Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer fame and Gabe Dixon of The Gabe Dixon Band turn out a nice rendition of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "O, Holy Night", "What Child Is This?" and "Jingle Bells" are a nice spin on the regular arrangements. Check out The Mediaeval Babes OL' SCHOOL "The Holly & The Ivy" for a real treat! Merry Christmas!
Disappointing
I love Christmas music, and I'm a fan of a lot of the artists on this album, like The Format and Adrienne Pierce. So I was expecting to like this album a lot, but I was really disappointed when I heard it. The "updated" versions of the songs are annoying, and the more classic renditions have been done before (and better) by many other artists. Plus, the flow of this is really off. It feels like it was just thrown together.
baby it's cold inside
I like my Christmas music to be more or less traditional. No jazzy renditions, no grandma getting run over by reindeer and certainly not the Barenaked Ladies trying to put that quirky BNL spin on Jingle Bells. To me, this is just some producers idea to capitalize on the desire for people to add a hip Christmas CD to the shuffle. Deal or no Deal? No deal, Howie.
