iTunes Review

Steely Dan produced some of some of the most literate pop records of the '70s. Named after a sex toy from the William Burroughs junkie novel Naked Lunch, Steely Dan had evolved from a bona fide group to, at the time of Katy Lied's 1975 release, a collection of studio hot shots, with Walter Becker and Don Fagen writing, producing, and singing all vocals. Steely Dan had stopped touring, so this dynamic duo spent thousands of studio hours crafting their pop masterpieces. Although Katy Lied isn't as hit-laden as their three prior albums. "Black Friday" was the AM hit from the album, and there are a number of other great tracks that found a home on FM Album radio, including the catchy "Bad Sneakers" and the hip but oblique "Doctor Wu."

I love the transition from Jazz to Rock, and just that crazy break down at 2:15 to 3:00 that song is such a crisp recording. Steely dan is trippen to not like their own album. I bought all of their albums just from hearing one song. And I AM HAPPY 5 STARS

This album is my second favorite of Dan's because it clearly infuses more jazz into the songs than previous albums. The arrangements and sax playing are gorgeous.

This is the best album ever produced

Most rock & roll bands are a tightly wound unit that developed their music through years of playing in garages and clubs around their hometown. Steely Dan never subscribed to that aesthetic. As the vehicle for the songwriting of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan defied all rock & roll...
