iTunes Review

Chicago transformed its brass-based sound into pure gold within a year of its 1969 recording debut. One of the most popular horn bands of their era, they fused the dynamics of big band jazz with the rhythmic drive of ‘60s rock. Initially, they delved into challenging musical suites and free-flowing jams. But, as this well-selected “best of” package makes clear, Chicago quickly found that tuneful midtempo numbers and romantic balladry were their true forte. In early hits like “Color My World,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?,” and “Saturday in the Park,” the band emphasizes smooth, plaintive vocals and tight, lustrous arrangements. Tunes like “Wishing You Were Here,” “If You Leave Me Now” and “Old Days” continue in a soft yet distinctive vein, boasting seamless ensemble work along with inescapable hooks. Weathering the loss of lead singer Peter Cetera in 1985, the band remains faithful to their core sound on such melodically-rich singles as “Look Away” and “What Kind of Man Would I Be?” Looking back, it’s not hard to see why this evergreen group enjoyed such a winning streak. Today, Chicago remains a pop music institution, as familiar and much-loved as its city namesake.

Chicago is one of the best bands of all time...

But only tracks 1-11 are the songs that are worth listening, too. Check out Chicago Transit Authority (first album), Chicago II, Chicago III, and Chicago V. These are their best albums by far and the only albums I find worth listening to.

I love chicago.

Well this band is awesome. I used to play in my school band and we loved chicago even though we're all "90's" children. They are real musicians and very talented at that. They are refreshing to stumble into becuase todays "artists" really lack the raw talent that earlier musicians had.

Best Album Ever

This album is the best album ever produced. There is not a bad song on it. It almost wears you out with one great song after another. This is Peter Cetera and the band at its best. If you are just becoming a Chicago fan..this is the album to buy. You will never get tired of listening to this Gold Classic.

According to Billboard chart statistics, Chicago is second only to the Beach Boys as the most successful American rock band of all time, in terms of both albums and singles.
