Did you know that Zydeco music can make you happy?

     

I got to meet T-Lou a few weeks ago (I designed the CD art for this disc), and let me tell you: the guy's energy and presence is amazing. When he's on stage, that energy and presence turn every performance into a party. There's no way you can't dance with this music on. Seriously. I know next to nothing about Zydeco music, but my whole family is bouncing around the house whenever I put this on.

So how does it sound? It sounds like Zydeco, except on steroids, with a Southern California rocking' twist. This is one beautifully-recorded album. The accordion is front and center when it needs to be, T-Lou's voice is silky-smooth, etc. etc. … but when the drums kick in the low-end is gorgeous — open enough to know that they didn't overuse the compressor/limiter. And the sax parts, the electric guitar parts, the backing vocals — wow! Get this on a really good stereo, and you'll be blown away.

The songwriting is designed for one thing: dancing. Partying. Oftentimes funny, sometimes poignant, but always danceable. If you have ever been to a Zydeco concert, you know what I'm talking about.

So there it is: one incredible new album from T-Lou. I'm gonna try and see him the next time he performs in or around L.A.; he's that good. And I can't wait to be around that energy and presence again.
