iTunes Review
Swooshing and screaming like burning jet bombers, the Pixies roared into the big leagues with Doolittle in 1989. This divinely demented quartet fused a wealth of pop influences to produce one of the most brain-searing (and influential) post-punk, pre-grunge discs of its era. Singer Black Francis shrieks out geysers of enraptured babble, with bassist Kim Deal's sugary coos providing counterpoint. From the doom-laden warble of "Silver" to the gnashed-up bubblegum of "Here Comes Your Man" and the sinister skank of "Mr. Grieves," the Pixies stay tuneful even at their most convulsive. Guitarist Joey Santiago's repertoire of dental-drill riffs, surf rock surges and mutant metal squeals turns tracks like "Debaser" and "Gouge Away" into glorious bloodsport. The overall effect is both lacerating and liberating-a white-knuckle thrill-a-minute ride

David Lynch, Audio Format
Dark, but certainly not without light. Impossible to describe. No one sounds like the Pixies, the Pixies sound like no one. This album showcases what them at peak form, demonstrating what they are most known for: catchy, singable songs with abrasive touches, dark flourishes, but never without a wink from master songsmith Black Francis or a smile from bassist/velvet voiced background vocalist Kim Deal. One of my all-time, top five rock albums, along with Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, Weezer's Pinkerton, Radiohead's OK Computer, and Revolver.
Definitive Pixies
A few years after being introduced to the burgoning "college radio music" scene (there wasn't really a name for this stuff yet, other than post-punk) a friend of mine dubbed this album for me on cassette. It goes down as one of 5 cassettes I have ever broke from playing over...and over...and over...and over. It really never left the car. Doolittle is an album that embodies and defines so much of that time period: abrasive, catchy, tongue-in-cheek music with a bit of identity crisis thrown in. Post-punk but pre-grunge, an essential offering and a great start for people just getting into this band.
This Monkey has just gone to heaven
Their would be no alternative rock without this album. This band was so genius it's not even funny. One of the best albums ever hands down. Monkey Gone to Heaven is my favorite personally but they are all amazing so check it out.
