These guys rock...
I'm not convinced anyone ever buys something based on a review so I'm going to keep this to the point. The whole CD is really good. You should buy the whole thing... but since it will be easier to get you to spend $3 instead of $10, I'll tell you to get "Bender To Ender" "My Key" and "Ain't No Crime" "My Key" is a definite must for anyone who thinks "Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds Five is a good song. The other two are excellent songs to open up a beer and waste a bunch of time to... Happy listening.
Fun in a Box
Ok, so I have to start off saying these guys are friends, so I am automatically prejudice towards them. But, that having been said, two guys playing music on drums and a B3 could easily become the same song with different words over and over. Dos Machos, their sophmore offering avoids this pitfall. Chris Wiser has wonderful tone and Doc Rock on the drums pounds out the toe tappers that'll make you move your tush...In the songs you hear the influence of Zydeco, Stax recordings stars and even a little Adam Ant. One cool thing is because the songs are based on true stories you'll find yourself picking out a theme song (mine is Bender to Ender!)...personal faves are Buddhist in a Beemer, Bender to Ender and Great Big Car. P.S. If you see them live, before hand learn the song Cornbread, it's a great participation song!
