iTunes Review
The soundtrack to the 2011 thriller Drive was compiled and composed by Cliff Martinez. After drumming for The Dickies, Captain Beefheart, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers (among others), Martinez turned his focus to film scores. He’s since set music to a myriad of projects, including Pee Wee's Playhouse, Grey’s Anatomy, The Limey, and Solaris, to name a few. French DJ Vincent Belorgay (a.k.a. Kavinsky) sets the tone here with “Nightcall,” a sexy slice of perfect Parisian electro-pop in the vein of Air, Darkel, and Phoenix. The Chromatics’ “Tick of the Clock” manages to work in palpable tension within a minimal krautrock framework reminiscent of Neu! and Kraftwerk. Martinez’s own compositions sound similarly inspired by late-‘60s German experimental music, as well as Vangelis’ breakthrough 1982 score for Blade Runner. Check the icy synthesizer soundscapes of “Rubber Head,” where pulsing analog keyboard repetitions recall those of Popol Vuh. Ambient topographies are also explored in the Brian Eno-influenced “I Drive.”

Instant and Timeless Classic
This film and it's soundtrack are an instant and timeless classic in the tradition of Donnie Darko and Memento.
It's not just that Cliff Martinez's score is one of the freshest contemporary film scores in years, It's not just that the five songs in the film are perfect and unpredictable, it's not just that the music in the film is a character adding depth to the narrative experience... all that is great, it's that the whole is greater the the sum of the parts.
See the film, and when you do I can promise you'll be coming back here to get the album.
The perfect soundtrack for your "drive" no matter where your journey takes you.
Titillating and Inspired!
This movie is so intense and the whole soundtrack MAKES it. The eerie and moving score music is fantastic juxtaposed to the pop music and the carnal quality of the film. The mood of the soundtrack as its own entity is inspired. I love the composer's style, which is so well suited to the other tracks and seems to be its own character in the film. I'm not sure what these other reviews were talking about-- it's not cheesy and Mr. Martinez is gifted. I think it does take a certain sophistication to really get. I was reading some reviews online and decided I HAD to buy it after discovering the composer's use of a really rare instrument called a Crystal Bachet-- what an insane and beautiful instrument-- knowing it made the sound took my experience of this music to a whole new level-- it's a brilliant movie and brilliant album.
YES YES YES
The movie is awesome and the music is unforgettable. While I was watching the movie I couldn't help but get lost in the music and beautiful cinemetography.
