Worth a deep listen.

Minimalist/ambient pieces to stir the soul and settle the mind. Hecker's work reminds me of some early Harold Budd or Eno, with echoing strains throughout. This is "ambient" in Eno's sense of the term, meaning, music that can be enjoyed either as a kind of background to other activities, or that can be appreciated as the sole focus of attention.

Perhaps lacking...

Would love to hear what would develop if Robin Guthrie was involved here.

Dropped Pianos

I'm really enjoying this. At first I was quick to compare this to Brian Eno and Harold Budd's 'Ambient 2' and 'The Pearl', what with the reverberating piano melodies and subtle synth noises in the background. But as I listened more, I started seeing this album as it's own thing. This is much darker than those other two albums; much more foreboding, much more like Hecker's recent album than conventional ambient music. My only real complaint is that, some of these tracks, while all enjoyable, sort of breeze by indistinguishable from each other. Other than that though, a very solid album.

Montreal producer Tim Hecker made his initial breakthrough as Jetone, but followed with ambient music attributed to his born name. This experimental ambient work, released by Alien8 sublabel Substractif beginning in late 2001 with Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again, won much acclaim.
