Brilliance in a plastic case
John Debney has done it again! With magical scores such as Dragonfly, Passions of the Christ among others, he continues to show that he can turn a motion picture into a thrilling ride. I have always been a fan of Debneys, especially once I found that he helps write many of scores for the Disney World parades. He is a genius. He takes you on a magical journey with this score for Duma. I strongly suggest this entire CD, as there is not one bad song on here. Be sure to see his other scores as well.
Good Movie – Good Soundtrack
This is such a nice soundtrack. One can easily put this on and have it playing as background music, but this movie soundtrack can stand-up to closer scrutiny. Anyone familiar with African music will recognize some familiar compositions. One in particular would be track three entitled “Cute Kitten Montage” as this is a stepped up remix of Ayub Ogada’s Kothbiro from his album En Mana Kuoyo (also available on iTunes). Although Ayub Ogada’s version is a bit more melancholy, the soundtrack version is strictly instrumental and more upbeat. I can recommend this soundtrack to those that wish to start a little African music collection. This album soundtrack is a romanticized Africa, which is a great introduction into ethnographic music for the beginner as well as the more seasoned audiophile.
Duma Forever...
Nothing makes me more pleased than hearing well-thought-out, beautiful music. If you feel this way, buy this soundtrack IMMEDIATELY. I hope you like it as much as I do. It has a refreshing, African beat to it, and is a nice break from all that cruddy nonsense we call music today (i.e. Brittany Spears).
