Customer Reviews
One of the best Rock CD's I’ve heard in a while....
This is a killer CD from a group of veterans musicians The Lead guitar is Roger Fisher of HEART fame. This is the guy who wrote the Barracuda riff. He also co-wrote pretty much every Hit from Hearts first 4 Albums. The Drummer is Mike Derosier also from Heart. There bass player Lynn Sorensen was with Paul Rogers. The other gtr is Rick Knotts from Rail a well know band from the Seattle area. And lastly the singer Mike Curley is from Birmingham England and he brings it all together. He has a kind Phil Collins sound but more gravely. Check out the track Hello, it has a goo goo dolls feel to it. Also listen to Waisted, and Chapter 14 both stand on there own.
A FORWARD BY MIKE CURLEY OF CLEVER BASTARDS
A Forward by Mike Curley of Clever Bastards....... First of all I wanted to thank you for taking the time to check out the new album - hopefully you may have even bought a copy !! Certainly within the band there was discussion as to whether or not people care any more about concept albums, in this digitally downloadable world. At 37 I kind of feel a little left out from the good old days. I have certainly bought and span plenty of vinyl in my time and always had a love of the artwork and and other writings that my favorite artists had to say, I guess it helps bring them closer to you. Of course with CD’s even starting to die out now, You could argue the question why do bands even bother to deliver an album at all - and just release individual songs like they did back in the early days of rock n roll. Well being as though I never got the chance to be involved in a 1970’s Pink Floyd Style album with a vinyl release and the band is so far to uncool ever to be considered modern !! We released an album with an inner concept of thought. This is the story of a young man who like so many posses all the gusto of youth but struggles to find direction in his life. He meets the girl of his dreams and they marry prior to his joining the armed services. With his fellow countrymen - of many colors and cultural backgrounds he too bravely answers the call. Where in the ensuing fray he is tragically killed, returning home to visit his young family as the eternal spirit called light. That is the concept - true enough that ever generation has witnessed again and again. The greater concept will always remain peace in our time. Cheers! Mike Curley
One you can't get out of your head.
I remember years ago listening to Pink Floyd "The Wall". I would play it for hours and hours, listening to all the little nuances that would come out each time I played it. Dumb it Down has had the same effect on me. I find myself constantly hitting repeat on the iPod. My favorite track is ,"Hello". It sings to me a world where even though you may have been through a lot, there are people out there just like you. There is no need to feel alone. The beauty of the human spirit. In a world where music often seems hurried and soulless, "Dumb it Down" gets to inner emotions and thoughts with beautifully arranged music by master musicians. This is not some garage band. Roger Fisher and Mike DeRosier formerly of Heart and Alias (More than words), Rick Knotts formerly of Rail, Lynn Sorensen (Paul Rogers Band) and the amazing vocals of Mike Curley pull this all together. Download the whole album and you'll hear the music as it tells a story with each song as the album progresses. What is the story you ask? I think it better to find it through your own self discovery. You won't be disappointed.
