Album Review
Through all the twists and turns taken by Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson during her 20-year career as an entertainer — including a stint on Kids Incorporated, background vocals for Martika, two albums with adult contemporary/dance-pop group Wild Orchid, and superstardom with Black Eyed Peas — she has always sounded as if she is trying really, really hard. That has been the lone consistent characteristic of her output, and it remains in effect throughout The Dutchess, an album with all the characteristics of a release fronted by someone who has been itching to go solo and prove herself, once and for all, as a versatile force all her own. Fergie does cartwheels and handstands, juggles three objects at once, balances books on her head, hangs upside down, rides a unicycle with her hands in the air — all these things while wearing different outfits. The whole process, produced mostly by fellow Pea will.i.am, is mildly entertaining. There's throwback hip-hop ("Fergalicious," done to the tune of J.J. Fad's "Supersonic"), throwback soul ("Here I Come," done to the tune of the Temptations' "Get Ready"), reggae ("Mary Jane Shoes"), ska-punk ("Mary Jane Shoes"), scat ("Mary Jane Shoes"), vaguely torchy midtempo fluff ("Velvet"), and a classy string-drenched ballad (the appropriately titled "Finally"), among several other passable switch-ups. "London Bridge" is terrific, provided you can block out the lyrics or prevent yourself from trying to decipher its meaning. One of the more convincing songs on the album, "Big Girls Don't Cry," sounds exactly like a 2006 version of Wild Orchid, with Fergie's Taylor Dayne kid-sister act in full effect. [A&M issued a bonus track edition in 2006 as well.]

Good album
An album that I just don't understand all the hate that's been thrown at it. It seems all that the haters have heard are the first 2 singles, and that's what's they're reviewing about.
Also, get deluxe! You get 2 extra songs for the same price!
1. Fergalicious (3.5/5) - I understand the hate thrown at this. It's uninspired, meaningless, self-centered urban dance pop. But it's so catchy. And why the hell can't will.i.am spell tasty correctly?
2. Clumsy (4.5/5) - It's a very nice R&B/pop song. It's a feel good relationship song.
3. All That I Got (5/5) - Great meaning, nice feel good R&B/pop song.
4. London Bridge (3/5) - Also understand the hate for this song. It's just sex. But the chorus is addicting and has a nice sound. I don't have a problem with explicit lyrics, but I still prefer the 'Oh Snap' version.
5. Pedestal (5/5) - Great meaningful stab at one specific hater (parez...)
6. Voodoo Doll (3.5/5) - I like the chorus, but the verses are boring
7. Glamorous (5/5) - A fantastic old favorite of mine. The lyrics are actually good, and not conceited, as most people think.
8. Here I Come (4/5) - Chorus is great and shows her vocals, but the rest is so so.
9. Velvet (4/5) - Nice soft song that gets better in the end.
10. Big Girls Don't Cry (5/5) - Fantastic mature ballad.
11. Mary Jane Shoes (4.5/5) - It's a nice reggae infested song.
12. Losing My Ground (5/5) - Great song. Love the guitar.
13. Finally (5/5) - Just a beautiful ballad. Shows off her vocals.
Maybe We Can Take A Ride (4/5) - It's too short. It has a nice jazzy sound, but there's too little words.
All of these songs average a 87.1%, which is a B+.
It averages to 4.4 stars, so it's a 5 star album.
