iTunes Review

Dwight Yoakam first emerged in the mid-80s as a country music traditionalist with roots in the no-frills Bakersfield sound first popularized by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the 1960s. He duetted with Owens for the 1988 number one country hit “Streets of Bakersfield,” and after Owens passed in 2006, Yoakam recorded this tribute to his hero. Dwight Sings Buck is everything one could expect from Yoakam. It’s a smartly chosen collection of Owens’ finest tunes played in the same sturdy bare bones style popularized by Owens’ backing group, the Buckaroos, without sounding slavishly retro or by-the-numbers. Yoakam’s a top shelf singer and his timing, inflections and genuine love for the material make him the perfect candidate to pull off a re-introduction of Owens’ catalog. From “Act Naturally” and “Under Your Spell Again” to “Close Up the Honky Tonks” to “Together Again,” Yoakam locates each song’s core energy and emotion and lets fly. Fans of traditional country need to add this to their collection.

A Must Buy Album

It's all good, folks. Do yourself a favor and just buy the whole thing - - it's a bargain. You can't have more fun in a single CD than this, nor better quality music. Dwight and the band put their ALL into this and it shows, from beginning to end. This is one of the few albums I own that gets better with each song. Usually they fizzle out by track number 3 or 4. This one is solid throughout. Highly recommended!!

Awsome! A must have for country music fans!

This is one of Dwights best albums yet! This cd takes you on a journey, that leaves you wishing it would never end. There is not a weak selection on the entire album. On some of the cuts you cant tell if your hearing Dwights voice or Buck s voice, he does that good on vocals(Cryin Time, I Dont Care, Act Naturally) But on Others Dwight tweaks the way the song sounds and makes it his own, While at the same time holding the song in the highest regard (Close Up The Honky Tonks, Only You etc) All in all this album should please Buck Owens fans, Dwight Yoakam fans, and even the casual country music fan. On a scale of 1 to 10 this album is a 12.

IT Doesn't Get Any Better

What an Album! What A Tribute! This is what Country Music is all about. "Close Up The Honnky Tonks" is a Very Haunting version in Dwight's Style. This Album is a Must for Real Country Music Lovers.

With his stripped-down approach to traditional honky tonk and Bakersfield country, Dwight Yoakam helped return country music to its roots in the late '80s. Like his idols Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams, Yoakam never played by Nashville's rules; consequently, he never dominated the charts like his contemporary Randy Travis. Then again, Travis never played around with the sound and style of country music like Yoakam. On each of his records, he twists around the form enough to make it...
