iTunes Review

Mae closes its recording career on a classy, heartfelt note with (E)vening, a nine-track release that eloquently sums up the band’s breadth of vision. Mae displays an uncanny ability to find the spiritual center within ordinary moments, underscoring the compassionate quality of their lyrics with dynamic arrangements embellished with baroque strings. Dave Elkins’ vocals capture a palpable longing in songs like the otherworldly “My Favorite Dream” and the grandly ascending “Sleep Well.” Especially moving is “Bloom,” a stirring affirmation of hope set to chiming keyboards and rumbling drums. Though many of the tracks are dreamy in tone and texture, “I Just Needed You to Know” benefits from some crunchy electric-guitar riffage. The three-part piano instrumental “Seasons” takes the listener on a contemplative journey from serenity to sorrow and back again. Mae renders these tunes with tight, focused musicianship and a lack of overt ego. (E)vening is a beautifully bittersweet sunset offering by a group that will be sorely missed.

Fantastic

As a mae fan, I admittedly didn't get started on them until "the everglow". After the amazing story that album was I immediately went back to all of their previous work, and I was equally astounded. I've always loved their music, and their ability to tell a story throughout a song and an album. What I didnt expect was the 3 album story epic to end their run. While I'm sad to see them go, I can't imagine a better send off. The movement of all of the songs makes for an incredible experience, but more so it is reflective in all the right ways, especially for those of us that have "grown up" with and through Mae. Though I know they may not have defined a music generation, they defined one lost college kid's life, and helped the man he became reflect on all that has happened. Good (e)vening, what a beautiful ending to our "Mae Day". Thank you for the music, and even more for the history.

I Miss Mae

Mae, along with Bleach and The Juliana Theory are my favorite Tooth & Nail bands from the 2000's, it's a real bummer all of them had to end, but this is a wonderful goodbye from a wonderful band, just remember "Sky's The LImit".

Yes

That is all.
