iTunes Review
Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow performed and recorded all the songs himself on this impressive full-length debut. Recorded over several months at a cottage near the sea, the setting perfectly matches the introspective and isolated mood of the album. The simple and warm recording style features gorgeous multi-tracked harmonies throughout, especially on the gripping opener, “If I Had a Boat,” and the focus is on McMorrow’s captivating voice which alternates between a soulful falsetto and a breathy tenor. The songs are supported by spare arrangements using guitars, keyboards, a stripped-down drum kit, and the occasional banjo. Most are imbued with a hushed beauty that accentuates the stirring lyrics and strong melodies (“Hear the Noise That Moves So Soft and Low,” “This Old Dark Machine,” “Follow You Down to the Red Oak Tree”), while others start quietly before building to a crescendo as on “We Don’t Eat,” “Sparrow and the Wolf,” and “From the Woods.” Fans of Iron & Wire, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver and other creators of intimate bedroom folk will surely appreciate Early In the Morning.

Unreall
up there with "For, Emma, Forever ago" this album has a raw but controlled feel. love love love this album.
Incredible
Soaking with emotion.. I'm speechless, really.
Words Are Useless to Describe....
I have literally been waiting an entire year for this album to be released in the United States and now the release is finally here! The first time I heard "From the Woods" on an episode of Grey's Anatomy I was immediately transfixed by the voice of Mr. McMorrow, easily one of the most distinctive and haunting voices I have heard in quite some time. McMorrow's music is very similar to that of Bon Iver and Iron & Wine, so fans acquainted with those artists should have no problem in welcoming this music to their libraries. In my opinion, James shines best when it is just him and his guitar, like on "Hear the Noise" and "Follow You Down", as well as the not one but two bonus tracks.
If you've read this far you should just know that you should hit "Buy Album" right about now. It will be one of the best music purchases you make this year...
