East Carson Street!
When the annals of Houserocker lore are finally written, East Carson Street will take its rightful place as one of the greatest albums Joe Grushecky and his band mates have ever released! Critics have long praised Grushecky’s talent as a songwriter. His poignantly powerful ability to turn-aphrase continues unabated on East Carson Street. Fans of Grushecky-The-Poet will revel in the biting cynicism of tracks like “Another Thin Line” (co-written and sung with longtime friend Bruce Springsteen) and “I Always Knew”. They’ll choke back tears listening to the affectionate musings of “Just Like That”, “Lee Ann”, and “This Is Someday”. And, they’ll resurrect hope from the stirring lines of “Down River” and “The Sun Is Going To Shine Again” (featuring unsung rock hero Willie Nile on vocals). Indeed, if the lyrics to the title track, “East Carson Street”, don’t inspire a sense of hometown pride, it is time for the infamous forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht to perform your autopsy! However, it is the musicianship on this album that simply blows you away. Grushecky’s robust vocals have never been clearer as he combines his signature indignant raspings with appropriately tender melodies. Bill Deasy’s vocal duet with Joe on “Broken Wheel” is a special treat. Both singers compliment each other’s styles and leave listeners hoping for more collaboration between these two in the future! Another highlight is “Carried Away” as the band revisits its soulful roots with a song that would make any Motown producer proud. During the blazing guitar riffs on songs like “Its Too Late (Can’t Turn Back Now)”, “Another Thin Line”, and “Chasing Shadows”, you can actually feel the sweat pouring off of Joe and Danny Gochnour’s guitars. The honky-tonk barroom rocker, “Satisfied” is an instant Houserocker classic featuring a raging interplay between guitars and Joe Pelesky’s keyboards that is guaranteed to violate every local sound ordinance when played live! Rick Witkowski’s production is impeccable. East Carson Street is Houserocker music at its finest and may well be the first studio album, in their critically acclaimed history, to authentically capture the energy, passion, and sheer delight of the band’s live performances.
Another Great CD From Joe G & the HR's
As expected, another great disc by Joe and the HR's. After first listen Chasing Shadows, The Sun Is Going to Shine Again and the title track really stand out. The whole disc is fabulous. Joe's song writing is as great as it's always been. Springsteen and Joe again share vocals on co-write Another Thin Line, which is just as good as the E Street version! Some of the sounds like country feel to Broken Wheel are new for the HR's. They show a lot of versatility as a band and sound great from start to finish. Really worth buying. Great listen!
Awesome!
