Album Review
When he's not directing feature films like House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, Rob Zombie likes to make music. Educated Horses, the prolific director, writer/animator/horror aficionado's return to the world of hedonistic, sexed-up monster rock doesn't stray too far from the formula that garnered him such a rabid fan base, but there's less theater and more backwoods creepiness at hand this time around. Horses crawls on all fours for the first three tracks, relying on too many tried-and-true White Zombie dance beats and turgid guitar riffs to hint at anything outside of sheer puppetry, but when the mid-tempo crunch of "17 Year Locust" begins to echo Sabotage-era Black Sabbath, it's clear that Zombie himself is having the time of his life pulling the strings. "Scorpion Sleeps," with its boot-stomping intro plays like Gary Glitter's "Rock & Roll, Pt.1" blaring from angel's trumpets at the apocalypse, "Ride," with its Tubular Bells-inspired piano riff, evolves into a storm of sonic debauchery, and the purely psychedelic singalong "Death of It All" sounds like the end credits to the last film ever. Schlock it may be, but it's infinitely more listenable — and enjoyable — than most schlock thinks it is.

Best Zombie since Astro Creep!
Let me start out by saying this. Zombie's style has not changed, he has just grown as artist. He can't do 5 versions of Dragula, 3 versions of Living Dead Girl or anything that remotely sounds the same, like some other poser that makes every single sound exactly *cough-Manson-Cough*. He has evolved. He set out to make a record that has each song sounding nothing like one before or after it. Much like astro creep was. Sure its short, but do you wanna have to listen to one half of an album one day and the other half the next.. this was desgined for one sitting. Here is my rating of the songs: Sawdust in the blood - 5/5 American Witch - 5/5 Foxy Foxy - 4/5 17 Year Locust - 3/5 The Scorpion Sleeps - 5/5 100 Ways - 5/5 (awesome filler) Let It All Bleed Out - 5/5 (best song on this album) Death of It All - 4.5/5 Ride - 3.5/5 The Devil's Rejects - 5/5 (Twangy!) The Lords of Salem - 4.5/5 Overall I give a 4.7/5.. every song is atleast good, but most are amazing! Give it a chance, it'll grow on you! See u in Columbus Rob!
Rob does it again with a great release.
Been Looking forward to this album for months. I don't think it's as heavy as his other stuff and definitely a little more mainstream, but his lyrics were always my favorite part of his songs and he does not disappoint here. Not to mention he's actually singing. Some cool string sections fill out the songs instead of the sequencing that dominate some of his other tunes. It really sounds like a new Rob Zombie, very exciting. The songs have a nice structure to them so you feel like you're listening to a full, complete album of songs. Stand out tracks: "Death of it All", "Foxy, Foxy", and "The Devil's Rejects". Well worth the buy.
Different, but very solid album.
Here's a basic breakdown of this album: It's not the next "Hellbilly Deluxe." It's got a simpler, "smaller venue" feeling to it, and in all honesty, it's good to hear Zombie experimenting with his sound while not deviating too far. This is certainly a far more focused album than "Sinister Urge," and is not without it's gems. My two biggest complaints is that it's a bit too short, and the instrumentals feel a bit too much like filler. However, I'd much rather have a shorter, more concise album than one with 1 good song, and 14 throw away tracks. All in all, as an old Zombie fan, I'm very pleased with this offering. If you're still on the fence about getting it, definitely download "Foxy, Foxy," "The Scorpion Sleeps," "Sawdust in the Blood," and "Death of it All."
