A fascinating artist
Rita is one of those artists that comes along only once in a while. With one foot in the colloquial Caribbean and the other highly intellectual, her soulful approach to rhythmic music is a true innovation. It is difficult to achieve that nowadays - so much has already been done. But Rita's boundless creativity and the way she uses it to comment on the legacy of her country and the world - all with amazing swing and popular appeal - is nothing short of phenomenal.
Many of us who follow merengue may have been a bit reluctant in accepting "Los mamberos." However, I personally kiss their feet nowadays. Their popular appeal opened the door to Rita with her merengue-techo (among her many other styles!!) We are lucky to have an artist of her calibre on the commercial Latin scene (and of course all other scenes, because she will explode across the charts!)
EL JUIDERO is a must in any record collection!

I'm hooked on Rita's music. This album showcases musica Raiz, Alternative sounds and Merengue with poetic lyrics that mix with colloquial Dominican Spanish. I love the concept and I wish them the best of luck. Buy it!!! It is worth of your World Music collection.
