Not Enough
Ellis is possibly the father of 'Beyond Jazz' sounds of today. In the Sixty's he was touring local venues in Southern Cal. i.e. colleges, universities & anywhere else he thought he could swap his tracks. One of his albums seems to be lost on digital. I purchased, at that time an album called 'Soaring'. I have a warped version in vinyl, I played the music right off that disk. I would certainly like to replace it, There was a song on that album called 'Blues in Elf'. That song and album would be worth the price of all the Don Ellis songs iTunes has of his in their inventory.
Don Ellis was the king
It is very hard for me to review all of the music on this recording. This was my fathers favortie album. He played it all the time. The liner notes on the record, I have two copies of the vinyl, have the reviewer talking about how the music on this album bridged the gap between him and his rock oriented son. I would have to agree with him about that. Being the rock oriented son in my house, I have to say, buy Indian Lady. It is a great track. Truly amazing music.
Wish I saw him Live
I have been a jazz enthusiast for the better part of my life and just a few years ago a friend of mine introduced me to the works of the Great Don Ellis, particularly the Electric Bath vinyl. I wish I knew about his work and art earlier. I feel as if I have missed out on something. I love Don Ellis work.
