True Hyperborean Music
If you're a fan of the fantastical worlds of Clark Ashton Smith and Lovecraft -- or you just love evocative ambient music -- this is the CD for you. There is hardly a song on here that is not an enjoyable mood piece on some level. Most of them are wonderfully inspiring, particularly "Elevation," "Red Odyssey," "Novalis," and "A Sea of Steps." Except perhaps for "Sphere - Into the Dream," none of the songs feel like fillers. Buy the entire album and you certainly won't be disappointed.

Norwegian composer Erik Wollo started out as a jazz guitarist and dabbled in jazz-rock fusion on his early recordings. In 1984, however, he came out with Traces, an electronic album of startling originality. His subsequent releases are equally impressive. While there's always a sense of warmth to his atmospheric pieces, his music resounds with the stark beauty of Norway's wintry landscapes.
