Gil Shaham is back!
This recording is the most exquisite rendering of the Elgar Concerto that I have heard to date. It's a particularly difficult concerto to pull off while retaining its accesibility to the casual listener. Gil nails it! With a slew of new recordings and many more in the pipeline, I think it's safe to say...Gil Shaham is back!
A welcome new addition.
How this recording slipped under the radar is beyond me. It's good to see Shaham back in recording mode. He gives a stellar, energetic reading with Zinman and Chicago. My only real complaint is the production qualility. Shaham has a lean muscular tone but the album makes him sound too thin, which is a shame for such a great artists.
