Album Review

End Hits is a minor blebby for Fugazi — there are some great moments, however, so it's nothing to disown the band for. The epileptic "Lust for Life"-style "Five Corporations" has the riffs and rage, with Ian MacKaye taking the music industry to task for being the slow, incestuously festering beast that it is. Though the band seems to lack the stamina for instrumental wowing it once had, the songwriting is still there. On point as always, MacKaye remains lyrically immolated: "Check the math here/Check in ten years/Clusterf*ck theory/Buy them up and shut them down/Then repeat in every town/Every town will be the same." Nigh on two decades of punk army service, MacKaye is still far away from running out of relevant things to say. Other highlights include "Break" and "Place Position." MacKaye and Picciotto's mantra-like barking of "yawn yawn yawn" during the latter could stop you to think, "Wait, that was kind of funny," amidst all the fist-pumping.

expectations.

What do you expect? My suggestion would be to expect nothing or everything or something in between. That's sufficiently vague, I suppose. ...Maybe. :) Don't, however, expect "In On the Kill Taker" or "Repeater." That'd be silly. Don't listen to this with any preconceived notions. I listened to it for the first time as objectively as was possible for me. The result was that Recap Modotti became my favorite Fugazi song with Guilford Fall running a very close second. -- At least until The Argument came along with my new favorites... I'd list the other stand-outs, but you can see the track list. That sums them up pretty well. And I'm also not going to suggest that you purchase this directly from Dischord for $10.00 postage paid.

Best album of all time.

Or pretty damn close. I guess the White Album, by The Beatles, would have to come first. Seriously though, I've listened to this album thousands of times. It is still mind-blowing. The depth of experimentation on this album is astounding. It feels fresh and new, yet somehow retaining it's punk rock roots. Just give the first two songs a whirl. If you are intrigued, do yourself a favor and get the whole damn album. It's a masterpiece.

Classic late era fugazi.

Classic late era fugazi. And I would like to point out the irony of some douche posting a commercial for his band in the middle of a Fugazi review. Maybe you should go back and listen to all those Albums 1 more time buddy...you seem to be missing the point and everything fugazi stands for.

Formed: 1987 in Washington D.C.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

If history is kind to Fugazi, their records won't be overshadowed by their reputation and methods of operation. Instead of being known for their community activism, five-dollar shows, ten-dollar CDs, resistance to mainstream outlets, and the laughably fictitious folklore surrounding their lifestyle, they will instead be identified as setting a high bar for artistic excellence that is frequently aimed for but seldom achieved with great frequency. During their existence, the four-piece created some...
