Forgotten Masterpiece
In this offering, Chicago collective Cheer-Accident focuses their musical innovation to put forth the soundtrack to the contemporary condition. The music therein is just that -- a dense, cinematic soundtrack where angular guitar interaction plays with piano-based pop plays with noise collage. The lyrics suggest the current economic state of affairs, and its profound effects on human interactions. Though packed with meaning, the middle tracks stand their ground a moody, smart, yet accessible listen. Engineer Steve Albini wraps up Thymme Jones and company's message with his keen skills at the mixing board. Sadly, this important album, and the intellectual drives behind it, have gone underrated.
