Album Review

Eric Woolfson sang lead on the softest, smoothest hits Alan Parsons Project had — the run in the early '80s that included "Eye in the Sky" and "Don't Answer Me." Woolfson parted with Parsons after the musical Freudiana in 1990, and while the Project never recorded another album, there was still some unfinished business left for the singer to tidy up with 2008's Sings the Alan Parsons Project That Never Was. When Sony/Legacy was preparing deluxe reissues of APP albums, they contacted Woolfson to see if there were any unreleased tracks or songs in the vaults. The singer/songwriter dug up some cuts for the expanded CDs but also found a batch of unfinished songs that he decided to complete for this album, rounding out the record with some songs that he would have submitted to Parsons if they had indeed recorded more albums. It's not too shocking to find Woolfson following the silken road he paved with those soft rock hits: this is APP as if Woolfson were in charge, emphasizing melody over concept, far over concept, which is by no means a bad thing, as this is sweet, silken, soft rock, the kind of which that has been unheard since Woolfson sung on those APP hits in the early '80s.

Eric Woolfson : The Alan Parsons that never was

I am heartbroken to hear of Erics death on Dec 2nd. He provided the sound track to my life and pulled me thru some rough times. His keyboard is quiet and still now and I await to hear him on the other side. As he says in the last cut " As long as you remember me I am immortal" Well said Eric , Well said.

A pretty solid collection!

Indeed, if you're a big APP fan like I am, then this is definitely worth a listen. For one reason or another, not all songs that the Project created made the final cut. There's the inspirational epic, Golden Key. The soft ballad, Any Other Day. The criminally commercial, yet undoubtebly catchy, Steal Your Heart Away. And if you're like me, and love the album Stereotomy, Rumor Goin' Round was a very cool song to hear. I'd definitely recommend trying some of these songs out. Hopefully the sequal to this album will bring us an even better collection!

Eric Wolfson was the best!

I own all of the Alan Parsons Project and a couple of Eric Wolfson's albums and enjoy them all. Eric was a very rare talent who created so many excellent songs which we remember on Alan Parsons Project albums. The sincerity of Immortal (on this album) is simple and haunting. What an amazing voice. Eric is one of the most under rated song writers/singers of his time.
The world lost an amazing talent when Eric passed on. He will be missed.
