Album Review

The Essential Foster & Lloyd groups together 19 tracks by this influential duo who scored several hits in the 1980s. The two merged Lloyd's melodic pop smarts with Foster's Texas literary soul, giving them catchiness and substance in the same package. They also could rock out, leaning toward a rockabilly energy that didn't carry a trace of the redneck swagger of Southern rock. Instead, this was solid, clean-rocking fun with brains. The duo split in 1990 after three albums, but this collection is a good reminder that they anticipated the country youth movement that followed them.

A Jewel Tucked Away in iTunes Attic.....

A Jewel Tucked Away in iTunes Attic..... I first became aware of this group in 2009 when I was playing a soundtrack to the Switch Back movie, that I had picked up from a clearance rack. The song in that soundtrack was "Texas in 1880". Being somewhat of a country connesieur, I wondered who in the heck are those guys? Kind of like Sundance in the Hole in the Gang movie. So, I came to iTunes and did a search and found this little jewel of an album. I guess these guys only lasted 3 albums together before splitting up, but these are some very good tunes. With the two together, they have a very peppy style that appeals to me. And.. for you dancers out there, most are really peppy two-steps!!

Great Country Duo

I first saw Foster and LLoyd when they opened for Steve Wariner in 1988. I bought all their albums and this compilation contains the best from each. The tunes still sound as fresh today as they did then. F&L have a unique sound that will have your foot tapping, and you will crave more.

Good songs

My personal favorite off this greatest hits has to be "don't go out with him". Heard these guys when my dad was playin country while I was driving with him. I decided to buy some songs and leave a comment

Foster & Lloyd stood out from the contemporary country pack in the late '80s thanks to Radney Foster's intelligent, literate lyrics; Bill Lloyd's flair for memorable pop melodies; and the duo's Everly Brothers-style close harmony singing. It was an influential mix that, in its own way, helped pave the way for country's crossover success of the '90s. Foster & Lloyd met in 1985 while working as staff songwriters for the MTM publishing firm. Foster had grown up in Del Rio, TX, and attended the...
