iTunes Review

“Holdin’ On” sounds like a California classic that should be broadcast from an 8-Track player blaring from a customized van. Thirty-five years past that moment in time, the possibilities of the era come charging from Rooney’s 2010 release, Eureka. “I Can’t Get Enough” is an AM radio classic from the days when AM radio stations played music. “Only Friend” pumps up the Fender Rhodes. “Into the Blue” is the song meant for ‘70s soft-rock stations. Yet, for all their love of retro-styles, Rooney play with an urgency and power that was incorporated by the punk and new wave bands that followed. The guitar crunch of “All or Nothing” uses Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello and countless skinny-tie bands to make its point. The additional bonus cuts on the “deluxe” edition include the full-powered attack of “Pity” and the reggae-tinged “Can’t Put Your Heart Around Everyone.” And the acoustic tunes, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” and “Go On,” where the band proves it can even pull it off with little more than the purity of their earnest vocals.

Customer Reviews

Awesome!!

Rooney is the best at creating those great works of art that are AMAZING when you first find them, and a year or two later, they are still that wonderful! Eureka is truely a new art form, with it's twisting melodies and it's funky new riffs. This is a must-have for any music fan, you will not be disappointed.

Love

I've been in love with this band for years. They've surely done it again!

I love Rooney but not what their fans are listening to...

Rooney is a great band. The music is upbeat, catchy, and retro while retaining the ability not to be pigeon-holed. I just wish Rooney would've not sold themselves short and toured as the opening act for The Jonas Brothers. They should've stuck with much more talented bands such as The Strokes. Hopefully, Rooney will stop associating with such inferior acts and start attracting the indie fanbase they so rightfully deserve.

Biography

Formed: 2000 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Inspired by vintage pop music — particularly melody-minded bands like the Beach Boys, ELO, and Superdrag — Rooney held their earliest practices in a bandmember's garage in 2000. From the start, though, the group enjoyed connections that most garage bands lack: frontman Robert Carmine was the younger brother of actor/ex-Phantom Planet drummer Jason Schwartzman (not to mention the son of actress Talia Shire, cousin of Nicolas Cage, and nephew of Francis Ford Coppola), and both he and drummer...
