Album Review

Upon hearing Lewis' Even So, most listeners will find it impossible not to make Radiohead comparisons. The resemblance lies not only in lead singer Brett Tohlen's emotive falsetto, which sounds uncannily like Thom Yorke's, but also in the quartet's moody, textured, alt-rock soundscapes (especially in those places where the band uses a Rhodes piano). Although familiar sounding, Even So's downbeat, orchestrated indie rock is still performed with muscle and delicacy. Lewis' craftsmanship and conviction are commendable, but ultimately don't make up for the fact that the band's sound is mannered and derivative.

haha

I'm in 8th grade and Brett Tohlen is my New Testament teacher right now. He told us about this band of his, and they're actually pretty good.

I've Been Looking For These Guys Since 1999

I saw these guys once in Denton, TX at Rick's Place in '99. I bought their cd Progress and Regress and lost it a year later. It was one of my favorite albums. Does anyone know how I can get a hold of this anywhere? It needs to get onto iTunes!!!!!! I had always thought, out of all the local bands I would see that these guys would make it big. Thanks for making the beautiful music you did.

Beautiful

I love this band so dang much! I can't count the car trips I've had and sang along to Feet on the Ground, Bitter Days, The Path that Strays, if you play guitar or sing I hope you will find this as inspirational as I have. If you like this you'll find more at deep elm records, but stick with the older indie/emo stuff the new is ehhhh......

Lewis burst onto the scene in 1999, when their Progress & Regress revealed their knack for tense, jangly emo rock. The band, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Brett Tohlen, guitarist Matt Beaton, bassist Jeff Truly, and drummer John Owen Parish, was named after the author C.S. Lewis, causing many to confuse them...
