Album Review
Ryan Farish is one of the most popular purveyors of easy listening electronica in the United States, even though most people don't know his name. Where most listeners have experienced Farish's music is on the Weather Channel, which features his compositions regularly during the Local on the 8's forecast, as well as on the intro to Storm Stories. As his name has risen in profile, his site on mp3.com has gotten a steadily increasing number of hits, and his debut album Beautiful ended up on Billboard's Top Ten chart for new age music. His third album finds him exploring more extensively the sounds of live instruments; Everlasting prominently features string arrangements and electric bass along with the usual electronic chord washes and percussion. Farish's sound is still a bit on the goopy side, a problem that he could largely clear up if he'd eliminate the shimmery aura of reverb and delay around his piano, but there are some very fine moments on this album: "Sing to You" benefits from a U2-ish bassline, crunchy breakbeats rough up the edges on the otherwise rather saccharine "Together We Will Conquer," "Young at Heart" nicely juxtaposes his shimmery piano sound with tough, jungle-inflected breakbeats, and "Time Between Us" combines choral vocals and a rubbery trip-hop beat to fine effect. Nothing earthshaking here, but a very nice listen overall.

perfecto
great music
I love Sing To You!
Sing To You track is cool! The music has choir, piano, strings, fading guitar effect and drums. Very cool! The drum beat at the end sounds like Coldplay's Clocks. Ryan, please make more music like this. Thanks!
Great sound from a New Age composer :)
I haven't really reviewed anything in about a years time because I have been off and on my laptop doing other things that were music-related, but I got to say his music is really surreal it's like at first I thought it was out of a video game some parts of it anyways. When I first heard his music I thought it was one of Mark Mothersbaughs compositions, some but maybe not many probably remember him from his 80's band Devo and the single they released in 1980 Whip It that was before he went solo and went on to make music for movies like The Rugrats movie, The Royal Tenenbaums and he also went to score The Sims 2 video game, I would play that video game a lot when I was younger and some of the music off the game reminded me of Ryan Farish's music. His music is very new age'y but actually came here because on wiki it had him listed in the chill out music article and I thought well I ought to see what his music is like so I came here to listen to samples and I really like it, there are some parts of the music that I rather not here but overall it's good. The track's I like of this album are: the 1st track I like is Mercy Follows it is the introduction the album track with a favorable electronic sound and distorted string arrangement. The 2nd track I picked was Deep, I liked how smooth it was. The 3rd track I picked was Watch The Sky I liked the intro to that song I could have done without the latin guitars but it's ok. I picked Breakthrough and Time Between Us for my 4th and 5th track; Breakthrough was very chill out but also had an electronic sound. Time Between Us I think was a remix of Watch The Sky but the tempo was slowed down and featured no latin guitars just a choir. The last 2 tracks I picked were Dedicated and Everlasting Light. Dedicated featured a very surreal sound around 0:04 -0:12 and just seemed really light. Everlasting Light sounded like a remix of We Are Free and Sing To You and featured just a piano solo and sounded more like a balad. Overall I give the album a 6.6 out of 10 because he kept it consistent and is changin it up a bit from his previous albums.
