Album Review
Following the mostly acoustic Kevin Kolankowski album, the Miracle of 86 plug in for their second full-length. They straddle the fence of emo ("Dance Dance Revolution"), indie rock ("Every Famous Last Word"), and pop-punk ("Keep on Charging the Enemy Until There Is No More Life"). But there also seems to be a country influence seeping in, most apparent on "Sleep All Damn Day," which injects a country-ish melody with a healthy dose of emo. A couple tracks from the previous EP are revised: "Your Quicksilver Moment" and "I Think You Meant to Say No" are made fuller here. Kevin Devine's vocals aren't quite as tortured as his solo work, though they are still fervent, as he wails much like early Goo Goo Dolls. Guitarist Mike Robertson gets the mic on "Southern State," a noteworthy rocker which ends up sounding like a tame Jawbreaker. And that's a good thing.

sweet album
"every famous last word" is probably one of my favorite songs ever. It's such an energetic gem. I promise, drive around blasting that song and you will feel awesome. The rest of the album is your good miracle of 86 stuff--good guitar, good vocals. Kevin gets a little emo and throws in a southern-ish something in "call off the cops," and that's a great song. If you're not familiar with Kevin Devine's solo stuff, I highly recommend it. You can sing these songs, and you can feel them. This is one of those albums you should probably own. Invest.
just great stuff
i loved every bit
Beautiful Album
I waited like 5 months for this album cause it was the first thing i put on my christmas list. The wait was definitely worth it, I'm a huge Kevin Devine fan, and this album does not disappoint. I think out of all his albums, I'd rank this second favourite above Split The Country... and behind Brother's Blood.
I'd recommend buying the actual CD though because there are lots of great lyrics to this album and its always nice to listen to it while holding the lyric booklet. Its also cool to see KD really young haha.
First 7 songs are all gems... 5 stars. 8 & 9 just fall short of gems but still have such great feeling to them. 10 has to grow on me and I know it will. 11 is yet another gem, one of my favourites on the album. And 12 is a perfect closing song to this album. Wish this band came out with more music, they have such a great sound. At least we still have Kevin who is just as amazing. If you haven't checked out Kevin Devine, definitely go out and get Brothers Blood and Split The Country... before buying this, so you can really appreciate it.
