Album Review

Listening to this CD, one will be impressed by Grace Kelly's mature alto solos (which hint at Phil Woods and Jackie McLean while also being influenced by Charlie Parker), her youthful vocals (even if she sings a little more than she should), and her pop-oriented compositions. Also impressive are the testimonials in the liner notes by Woods, Jimmy Heath, Lee Konitz, Donald Brown, Cedar Walton, and Jerry Bergonzi. The punch line: Grace Kelly is 14. Most of her contemporaries rightfully sound like teenagers but she could pass for 24 in her playing, making one look forward to her future recordings after she continues to evolve and grow. This is an impressive beginning.

Awesome!

Hey, who ever said eh, you have no respect. This girl is amazing, she is so young too and will do great things. I played with her in a district band and now I look up to her. She has a great tone, is creative and enjoyable to listen too. I can't wait to hear more!

Eh

Ive heard better...a lot better

Very talented musician

I have seen Grace play in several junctions and she really is a very talented musician. For someone as young as her, her talent is through the roof. Her singing isn't the best I have ever heard, but her playing is far beyond her league. Someone has been practicing very hard. From one sax player to another, I know what it takes to play this instrument, and she has it. Take it from someone who didn't practice her instrument as often as she should of (and don't worry, I'm not saying I am better than Grace), but us women sax players need to showcase our stuff more, and I feel Grace really is showing what us young players have (even though she probably has more than the rest of us). Good job Grace. I look forward to seeing what else you have in store for us.

Biography

Born: May 15, 1992 in Wellesley, MA

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '00s

Not to be confused with the famous Philadelphia-born actress who became Princess Grace of Monaco and died in 1982, the Grace Kelly profiled in this bio is a straight-ahead jazz saxophonist/singer who had several albums in her catalog before she was 17. The precocious New England native has made the alto sax her primarily instrument, but she also plays the tenor and soprano saxes — and Kelly can play clarinet, flute, acoustic piano, and drums, as well. At times, Kelly will put down her saxophone...
