Album Review

Hey Mercedes' Everynight Fire Works is an aggressive collection of guitar driven emo-rock tracks built upon melody and passion. Like their esteemed ancestors Husker Du, the Pixies, and Sugar, this quartet captures the fervor of a live performance in the studio. Hey Mercedes' clever two-guitar arrangements, which meld basic voicings with linear phrases, are supported by a solid rhythm section that turns the beat around when you least expect it. Punk/thrash influences abound in "Our Weekend Starts on Wednesday," while "Eleven to Your Seven" is a pop tune worthy of Cheap Trick's repertoire. "Haven't Been This Happy" stands as a song of hope to even the most jaded of shoegazers. Everynight Fire Works is a solid effort that should serve as a springboard for a band with a bright future.

Customer Reviews

Always Great

This album is killer. Every song is full of beautiful, catchy riffs, crisp vocals and tight drums. It's all great. 3/4 of Braid but nothing like em. Totally original indie rock that I listen to all the freakin time. It's really great. Frowning of A Lifetime = best song ever. Everynight Fire Works = best album Vagrant ever put out. This is one of the best albums your money can buy.

The best

It's shame these guys called it quits. Brilliant album.

Top Notch

The music produced by Hey Mercedes on this album is nothing but top-notch. Their rhythmic guitar, aptly placed solos, unique drums, and heartfelt vocals make them one of my favorite bands and I hope you can hear why.

It all began in mid-'99, when Braid decided to call it quits and original guitarist Chris Broach left the group. They closed out their career with a series of well-received and well-documented local shows before Broach went on to work with his other act, the Firebird Band, and the remaining members — guitarist vocalist Bob Nanna, drummer...
