Album Review

Everything Sucks, Reel Big Fish's debut album, pretty much sets the tone for the group's subsequent work — hyperkinetic ska-punk that's sometimes tunefully catchy and sometimes just works the groove. Of course, the lyrics are an important part of the group's appeal, and their trademark sense of frat-boy humor is already well in place, as evidenced by songs like "I Want Your Girlfriend to Be My Girlfriend Too," "Why Do All Girls Think They're Fat," "Big F****n' Star," "Beer," and "Snoop Dogg, Baby." The heavy irony may seem a little smug and superficial to the uninitiated, but anyone who enjoyed their major-label albums will be pleased to find more of the same here. [Everything Sucks was reissued in 2000 with two bonus tracks and an enhanced section containing the band's first music video clip.]

Customer Reviews

Not many know, but this is their 1st album

Most think Turn the Radio Off is. Several songs off this album were re-recorded for that album. This is a really raw album. I heard that many of the band members were still in high school with this release. The lead singer's voice is very 1 dimensional. Amazing a year later his voice would be a lot better! So this album really isn't good, pretty average. You should start with Turn the Radio Off, but you may want this if you are a die hard Reel Big Fish fan.

Best Album!

Personnaly I like this album better than turn the radio off. In this album it actually sounds like they are having fun for fun. It also has a really raw sound. It's definately not mainstream, and that's why I like it.
Buy this album, or check out the song I'm cool.

Best Band

This album is great, but if you want to hear their talent then get turn the radio off or our live album is better than your live album because this one was sort of just thrown together from the junk in aaron's head. they re-recorded pretty much every song on this album on either turn the radio off or the monkey's for nothin and the chimps for free. just know this album exists cause its still great!! but buy their other ones if you want to listen to them.

Biography

Formed: CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Reel Big Fish was one of the legions of Southern California ska-punk bands to edge into the mainstream following the mid-'90s success of No Doubt and Sublime. Like most of their peers, the band was distinguished by their hyperkinetic stage shows, juvenile humor, ironic covers of new wave pop songs, and metallic shards of ska. The group cultivated an underground following that broke into the mainstream in summer 1997, when their single "Sell Out" became a modern rock radio and MTV favorite. Reel Big...
