Evolution of Soul
From the very start this album, from a vocal and musical perspective, is a refreshing relief from the temperate mainstream of contemporary R&B. To make comparisons would be a great disservice, but it is impossible to not notice the Marvin Gaye-esque timbre of his voice and instruments. The instrumentation is superb and fits his tone to the “T” in his last name. The compositions are surprisingly very developed and have many facets and moods within one piece. Robin “sangs” and it does not sound as if it is obligatory as some other Soul music seems to sound with forced emotion and expression. Robin Thicke is definitely the owner of his soul and the “Soul” that is found within this album. Thicke engages in a new and fresh dialogue with his new and fresh style that is both inviting and comfortable. To compare him with any contemporary artist of today such as Timberlake or any others would not only be a mistake but an indication of vocal and musical ignorance. This album is not only the Evolution of Robin himself, but is also the evolution of a man’s soul.
Don't Judge A Book by It's Cover!!!! Seriously
At first glance you think...Justin Timberlake rip off....that is so not the case, RT is not new to this. Robin's style is more mellow, thoughtful and tender. He flows effortlessly from playfully romantic to down right erotic. His lyrics are deliciously tempting. There are a few upbeat numbers with appearances by Pharrell and L'il Wayne but the overall feel of the disc is a slow mellow groove. Definitely worth purchasing. He left me wanting more. Lastly he's pretty easy on the eyes which doesn't hurt, looks and talent....bonus!
Soooo Smooth
The Evolution of Robin Thicke is truly one of the best neo-soul CD's I have added to my collection. I enjoy the smooth sounds of the classical guitar and the cool salsa beats that allow you to groove a bit. I purchased this CD for all of my married friends for Valentine Day gifts. Thicke is sure to stoke the flames of passion in any relationship.
