Great Album
It's inspirational and it will make all the non-violinists want to learn how to play. He's much like Ed Alleyne Johnson.
Captivating Violin performance appealing to modern and classical
5 Stars: "Evolution": A breakthrough album for electric-violin loop artist Alex Mitchell; music that melds the movement and tempo of modern pop music, with the counterpoint influence of Bach, a touch of Jazz, and some heavy metal solos. Evolution is richly layered with a modern, yet satisfying violin-esqe sound, complete with the full assortment of violin bowing strokes that helps keep the music interesting. Each track is performed live with the help of a loop station; Alex has mastered the use of nesting multiple layers that fade in and out throughout each piece. His use of effect pedals is brilliant. Instead of just distorting the instrument, he uses of a mix of pedals to at times enhance the electric violin towards that of an acoustic, and then, at other times, he takes it in new directions. Yes, he can make the violin sound like a heavy metal guitar, but with the glut of distortion on the market, why bother when you can explore new sounds. If you are of an open mind, and like a full spectrum of music ranging from Sibelius, Bruch, Jethro Tull, the Doors, the Who, Metallica, and Sum 41, then, I'm confident that you will be drawn into this album. Fantastic
I stumbled across his video “Soldiers Lullaby” on YouTube and feel in love with his music, the second I heard it. I bought “Evolution” the second the video ended. I just love his sound, I listen to his music everyday.
