iTunes Review

Music Go Music’s Expressions ranks among the most glorious outpourings of pure, shameless pop since ABBA called it quits a quarter-century ago. This L.A.-based trio (moonlighting from the cabaret-folk combo Bodies of Water) salutes and then transcends its kitschy sources of inspiration. Giorgio Moroder-style disco excess is melded with the giddy thrust of early Blondie, with dashes of Lene Lovich and the Carpenters added for extra tang. Over the course of these tracks, Singer Gala Bell shifts from romantic martyrdom (“I Walk Alone”) to buoyant self-liberation (“Just Me”) to morbid resignation (“Goodbye, Everybody”) with astounding aplomb. She moves amidst dense, often dazzling arrangements that reference just about every ‘70s-era pop/rock guitar hook and production flourish imaginable. Songs as different as the bubbly, ultra-sweet “Light of Love” and the ominously erotic “Warm In the Shadows” work to reinforce the prevailing mood of emotional overload. If this music isn’t irony-free, it is infused with a genuine love for classic pop and a spirit of unbridled fun.

Amazing and infectious, exploding with energy

Comparisons to ABBA are inevitable, but Music Go Music are so much more than just imitation. These are perfectly constructed pop tunes, and like ABBA, there is a hint of melancholy through much of the music. I have never written an itunes review before, but I love this album so much that I want to try and spread the word. No band this great should remain unknown!

So fantastic.

BEST ALBUM OF 2009. Hands down.

EPIC!

I know the word epic has been bandied about a lot lately, but it this case this album is truly so. From the swede pop anthem "Light of Love" to the melencholy tinged "Goodbye, Everybody", Music go Music shoot for the stars with their "Expressions". I have to admit my favorite track on here is "Warm In The Shadows", with a line like "who will warm the marrow of my frozen bones" that is sung over a pulsing disco bassline, how can you go wrong. Intellegent lyrics and well crafted production has put this album to the top of my best of for 2009..Highly Recommended

The over the top, anonymous Los Angeles dance-rock trio Music Go Music craft explosive and eclectic club anthems that rely heavily on the melodic late-'70s progressive pop style of bands like ABBA and ELO, while maintaining a contemporary edge reminiscent of Scissor Sisters, the New Pornographers, and Mika. The band released the critically acclaimed three-song Light of Love single in May 2008, followed...
