Desplat is brilliant and versatile

This really shows Desplat's versatility and although I prefer some of his other scores like Benjamin Button over this one on a stand-alone basis, this one is brilliant for the film! It's playful, light, yet mature. I'm giving it 5 stars based on it's ingenuity for the film. I would probably shoot myself if I had to listen to this on its own very often though. Still, Desplat remains one of my favorite composers along with newcomers, Josh Kramer, Abel Korzeniowski, and Nico Muhly - all of whom deserve a spot on your iTunes playlists!

Considerable overlap with the other Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtrack

Rating for this album as instrumental score only: 5 stars
Rating for this album if you want the songs (by Burl Ives, "Davy Crockett" etc.: 0 stars.
Rating if you already own the first soundtrack and want "more" music: 3 stars.
I will explain.
.
This album ("Additional Music") is the Alexandre Desplat score (with no songs) for Fantastic Mr. Fox.
It overlaps with the "Original Soundtrack" considerably, so if you already have that, you will NOT be getting completely new music.
.
Some examples:
.
(AM) Canis Lupis and (AM) Canis Lupis 2 are identical to each other, and identical to (OST) Canis Lupus.
(AM) Whack-Bat Majorette Ensemble = (OST) Whack-Bat Majorette with an extra 40 seconds at the beginning.
(AM) Mr. Fox In The Fields Medley duplicates (OST) Mr. Fox In The Fields but is longer.
(AM) Kristofferson & Kristofferson 2 are identical, and both are identical to (OST) Kristofferson's Theme.
(AM) Moving In = longer version of (OST) Jimmy Squirrel And Co.
(AM) Rat Fight + Death of Rat = (OST) Just Another Dead Rat in a Garbage Pail...
Most misleading of all:
(AM) Trains + Trains 2 + Trains 3 + Trains 4 = the same exact piece of music, treated slightly differently in 4 different stereo mixes. T1 = (OST) High-Speed French Trains. 2 = same music made to sound like it's coming from a toy radio speaker. 3 = same music with slight echo. 4 = same music with heavy echo effect.
.
These are just some of the examples of how the (AM) album tracklisting is misleading. There are more, especially regarding how often the same "Boggis, Bunce, and Bean" chorus appears in several places.
.
Please don't get me wrong. I LOVE Desplat's soundtrack, and I'm glad to have every extra little bit. But the repetition & overlap have caused me to mix my own personal soundtrack consisting of the best parts of the (AM) and the (OST). Buyer, please know what you're getting is maybe 25 minutes of new music, plus a lot of repetition.

two good, others regular soundtrack.

This movie was great, and so was the soundtrack. Like most movies, many of the songs only work in the context of the movie and would be unsuitable for listening alone. Unlike most movies, it has two tunes great for solo listening: Petey's song and Plan B. If you like listening to movie soundtracks, other movies with great soundtracks are: The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
