iTunes Review
After a four-year wait, Omaha’s The Faint released Fasciinatiion which they produced, wrote, recorded, and art-directed entirely, and which carries a number of themes, all related in some way to the idea of personal discovery, obsession, and the future. There’s a healthy dose of caution, as well: the first single, “The Geeks Were Right,” a smooth, catchy number with crisp guitars and distorted basslines, warns — from a future date — that the geeks were right about our obsession with technology: “Predator skills, chemical wars, plastic islands at sea / watch what the humans ruin with machines.” The glossy, punk-disco number, “Get Seduced” addresses our fascination with celebrities and our penchant for living vicariously through them, and the churning, machine rhythms of “A Battle Hymn for Children” explores our obsession with violence, comparing real war to “violent games on pause at home.” As far as thought provoking dance music goes, the Faint are still tops, although your footwork may be slowed a bit by the burden of the weighty lyrics. Not quite as easy to latch onto as, say, most of Danse Macabre, but give it some time.

I would expect for after 4 years
Over the past four years The Faint changed studios moving into a new recording environment the Enamel. They created their own record label blank.wav, leaving their long time home of Saddle Creek. After 4 years and so many changes one would really expect something exploratory. I find the Fascilnation to be much of the same from previous albums, even maybe more so of the earlier work. While the first 4 tracks are clearly solid dance tracks, the rest of the record falls flat for me, and I don't hear the kind of exploration I heard on each of the previous records.
well, I'm Fasciinated!
This album has automatically caught my attention! The Faint have been one of my favorite bands continuously, always pumping out new tunes to dance to and never failing to impress. Honestly, I have been expecting a slump; surely talent cannot simply just be stretched out for the course of this band's existence as seen so far, but alas, the band proved my expectations wrong. In this album, I hear not only growth, but tinges of what I love and adore in their unique sound and lyrical perspective. It was wrong to ever doubt them, as this work of art has not only opened my ears again, but brought something new to the disastrously boring trend of music. Thanking The Faint, for yet again holding true to their sound and core. Great Work!
What happened?
It honestly hurts to type this... They lost it. Been a fan for years and I can honestly say that I wish I would not have purchased this. It makes me sad to think such a great band has failed at making decent music but that's exactly what has happened. This is trash. They need to get back to their roots w/bank-wave and danse macabre in a hurry because releasing this sad excuse for music has me heading for the door and I'm sure many will agree. Listen to all the songs on their myspace before purchasing. Trust me.
