Still a surprise
I knew the bass player from Ho-Hum and bought this CD at his now-defunct record store. The band plays amazing live shows with songs that go back ten years, but I had never heard anything from this album. It's a shimmery pop gem that sounds very little like any other albums I've heard. The first song is a murmuring electronic, well, kind of chant. The second is a jangle-pop classic with an amazing bass line and production. The third is like an 80's drum machine tune taken to the next level. The best is #6, This is the Call of the Wild?, which starts with a disorienting beat, then explodes into a bizarre, razor-sharp dance tune. There is more variety on this album than I'd heard in years. Pick out a few of my recommendations and see what you think.
