Album Review

The Ready Set's 2010 album I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming was a super-bouncy, almost hyper record that blended turn of the century teen pop with laptop emo, and tossed in a bit of R&B and hip-hop for good measure. The Feel Good Now EP is more of the same but even more assured-sounding, extremely well-crafted pop. The “band” is still mainly the work of Jordan Witzigreuter, but here he’s helped by producer Ian Kirkpatrick and a few outside songwriters (including Kara DioGuardi). They help him craft an almost painfully effervescent and fun-sounding record, full of buoyant vocal harmonies, bubbly synths, and finger-snapping beats. At times it’s a little bit like what might have happened if the New Radicals had been more influenced by the Black Eyed Peas than by Prince. To that end, there are plenty of concessions to the overriding pop template of 2011, in other words, lots of Auto-Tune, fat techno synths, and booty-shaking beats. These familiar sounds never distract from the pure pop thrill the album delivers, nor do the occasionally silly lyrics (“So tell me operator/How do I operate her”). Instead of sounding awkward, they fit right into the frothy, happily mindless mix. The only downside of the record, and the band itself, is that they are hard to slot into any one style — too pop for emo, too emo for pop — and this may affect their sales. Regardless of that, if you are a fan of ridiculous pop music that will never tax your brain but may make you smile, this totally works.

Jordan is the man!

I have 2 inspirations for my music. One is Christofer Ingle. And my main inspiration by far is Jordan Witzigreuter.
I met him at Warped and he is so chill. He also picked my video for the Young Forever contest for 2nd place.
He's more than just a cheesy pop artist. His music has grown so much over the years.
With every album he's released, he's hit a new phase in his music.
Tantrum Castle, then I'm Alive/I'm Dreaming, and now Feel Good Now.
It's difficult to show maturity in pop music. Catchiness and lack of talent are often associated together.
But Jordan doesn't even struggle with that concept.
Every song on this EP could stand alone as a single. None of them are just fluff tracks.

Jordan is definitely my hero. And my dream is to one day go on tour with him.
Respect man, major respect.

P.S. Buy this EP! Ha. :)

I love it

All 5 songs have their own feel to them and they are all so amazing. I'm so impressed with this EP and can't wait for another full length album by The Ready Set.

Biography

Formed: 2003 in Fort Wayne, IN

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Starting in 2007, Indiana teenager Jordan Witzigreuter began retreating to his parent’s basement to record songs that straddled the border between melodic emo-pop and bubbly electronica. Although he adopted a name for the project — the Ready Set — Witzigreuter took a solo approach to the songs, which he recorded and performed entirely by himself. Within two years, he’d landed a contract with Decaydance Records, who paired him up with a number of veteran emo producers (including Zack Odom,...
