Album Review

"America is like a giant retarded trust fund kid"; "I was late to an ether frolic"; "Angie Dickinson could suck..." well, that last line's better left for Patton Oswalt himself to finish. Let's back up. An acerbically funny standup and underrated comedic actor, Oswalt finally gets his own album with Feelin' Kinda Patton, and there's a good chance Wal-Mart isn't stocking it. Speaking too quickly for your kidneys to process the laugh pain, Oswalt puts a pincer through the strata of American society, skewering everyone from the President and his curious motives, to decadent Hollywood producer Robert Evans, to gumpy Midwestern Fashion Bug workers naïvely laying '80s pop/soap opera discard Michael Damian behind the Tilt-A-Whirl. "That's the one thing I like about George Bush," he says in "Come On Apocalypse." "I really think he can get us into the Apocalypse." But while the Prez definitely raises Oswalt's hackles, his Bush bit only sets up a description of why it'd be so great to buy the farm during such an event. As he says, it's a better way to go than getting eaten by fire ants, right? There's a bit of David Cross in Oswalt's style, mostly in how effectively both use the F-word, but also in their common ability to weave hilarious cynicism through a jumble of personal experience and mundane pop culture events. But Feelin' Kinda Patton really gets going whenever Oswalt vaults off the usual comic fodder — '80s hair metal, porn, hippies — into bizarre flights of disposable culture surrealism. His recollection of an old Asti Spumante ad becomes an invitation into the twisted sex life of a frustrated midlevel professional; Robert Evans is the anchor for a meta-analysis of 1970s Hollywood Babylon. Not everyone's gonna get it. But for those who do, it's at least as funny as King of Queens.

Amazing

This album is amazing. It's the funniest material I have heard next to Dane Cook and Mitch Hedberg. Do not think I'm saying this is like Dane Cook or Mitch Hedberg, because Oswalt's comedy is very differnent. He is more li ke David Cross or Dave Attell comedy, which he admits to in the album. Patton covers such topics as Stella D'oro Breakfast treat commercials and Paas Egg Decorators to Robert Eveans telling wild tales of the seventies on ESPN. The range of topics and sheer wit gives this album 5 Stars. It's seriously worth it.

Funniest Comic Ever

I was first turned on to the comedy scene last year when Dane Cook released his first album. My friend lent it to me. Shortly afterward, she lent me this Patton Oswalt album. I have to say, I'm enjoying it a hole lot more than Dane Cook. Patton Oswalt has to be one of the more criminally unappreciated comics these days. Personally, I think that his work is far more funny than Dane Cook, who nowadays is far more popular. This is a definite buy if you're a fan of comedy, or if you just like having a laugh at another's expense, as this guy makes fun of plenty of people.

Funniest thing in a long time!

I purchased this album before my boyfriend and I went on a road trip. We had to stop listening to it for a while--we were both laughing so hard. We now quote the cd to each other when ever we see things like apples or listen to 80s rock or remember Bob Ross (the happy painter). Patton is funny in that clever "South Park" way...(some people with less of a sense of humor would call it sophmoric) its so funny you'll pee your pants, but you feel like you shouldn't be laughing. If I could only own one comedy cd this would be it! If you like Feelin' Kinda Patton go to patton oswalt's website, you can by the unedited version of this, a 2 hour long 2 cd set called "222". Enjoy and try not to operate heavy machinary while listening.
