iTunes Review

The third in an ongoing series of vague tributes to random actresses, following Christina Ricci and Lisa Bonet, Rosie Perez finds Felt (alterna-rap heroes Murs and Slug) cutting loose over a cacophony of spazzy beats cooked up by Aesop Rock, who takes over the production duties previously helmed by Ant and the Grouch. Lyrically, they're all over the place, fusing party rhymes with relentless trash-talking, oddball hooks, in-jokes, and straight stories. Aesop's beat construction is both jarring and compelling, never satisfied with simple loops and breaks, instead overloaded with challenging percussion, unidentifiable samples, and no shortage of effects. Unlikely to find airplay on your local "HOT" radio station, it will nonetheless be eagerly devoured by the legions of insatiable Def Jux/Rhymesayers/Living Legends fans. "Glory Burning," "Deathmurdermayhem," and "Bass for Your Truck" are especially dope.

eh

It pains me to say this but I am not that impressed. The album is dark. While dark can be good, it gets a little monotonous. Too much of the same! No upbeat songs, which is something I have come to love about FELT. I have been inpatiently waiting for months for this album, and now I am mildly depressed about it.

Garbage

Definatly the weakest out the series, aesop messed everything up. Part two is the dopest, i didnt find one track i could listen to all the way through. 9th wonder should have produced this one.

unimpressed

I have been waiting for this cd since they announced it at the concert i was at, at red rocks. As a true rhymesayers entertainment fan i think this album is crap. Aesop messed it all up. It is so dark and all the beats sound the same, i cannot tell differences between each track. not a single song sticks out as a good song. ant and grouch got it right even on their remixes. wish i had my money back.

Formed: 2001

Genre: Hip Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s

Felt initially started as a joke between friends Murs (from Living Legends) and Slug (from Atmosphere) after a discussion came up during a 2001 joint tour about who would have the best chance of sleeping with Christina Ricci. They eventually decided that dedicating an album to her would be most beneficial to their cause, and the next year, Slug went to L.A. to begin working on the project with Murs, taking only eight days to write and record A Tribute to Christina Ricci, which was produced by the...
