Album Review
Questions of identity seem to loom large in Lifehouse's mind. On their third album, they titled it after themselves, and now on the 2007 follow-up, they state Who We Are — a declaration that could easily be a question depending on the punctuation and emphasis. Does this fourth album add up to a statement or question? It's the former, but that doesn't necessarily provide a fulfilling answer for doubters. The curious thing about Who We Are is that the trio still parties like we've just left Y2K: there's no garage punk, no emo, no spacy precious pop, no electronic flourishes — it's post-alternative guitar rock preserved in amber. Guitarist/singer/songwriter Jason Wade contends that he's battling inner demons by wresting angels on the opening "Disarray," but Lifehouse don't hit as hard as they used to, since the bandmembers are starting to see the twilight of their twenties. Although there is little melody here, they're starting to mellow in characteristic fashion: with sincerity.

Song by Song Review
Why doesn't this album have more reviews? Now I'm somewhat biased towards Lifehouse, but this album is definitely a masterpiece! Every song on here is great, but I'm deciding to do a song by song review to get the nitty gritty of the album!
1. Disarray (5) - They could not have had a better opener...great rock, edgier song!
2. First Time (5) - There's a reason this was the first single...great lyrics and music and you'll be humming this quite a bit :)
3. Whatever It Takes (5) - I'm not just gonna put 5's for all the songs, but Lifehouse definitely put good songs at the beginning of this album!
4. Who We Are (4) - Who We Are is the title track, but the first three are killer and this is just one star under. No doubt though that this is a great song!
5. Broken (5) - I honestly didn't think they could top the songs above....'Broken' kind of shattered that thought! Completely unbelievable and perfect!
6. The Joke (4) - The lyrics of this song are quite deep and make you think...catchy song! Quite difficult to come right after Broken...
7. Easier To Be (4) - Catchy song with a good melody!
8. Make Me Over (5) - VERY GOOD SONG! They opened with this at their concert and it is an awesome song!
9. Mesmerized (4) - If I had to pick a least favorite from the album, this would probably be it, but I still listen to it and like it!
10. Bridges (5) - One of those songs that grab your attention the first time you hear it! It's a pretty edgy song!
11. Learn You Inside Out (5) - Great great song and is definitely one that grows on you! Quite different (and good choice) direction for Lifehouse!
12. Storm (5) - Absolutely great song! The lyrics are so meaningful and heartfelt! Knowing Jason Wade, this is more of a religious song...subtle and powerful!
13. If This Is Goodbye (5) - Great ender for the album, but makes you want more Lifehouse!! :) It's DEFINITELY not goodbye for Lifehouse!
14. Broken (New Version) (5) - Come on, it's Broken...everytime this thing comes on the radio, the radio volume goes up!!
Possibly the best album of 2007
From an outlook of 2007, through a stretch of similar music of melodic resonance entwined with other great rock/alt. alums, lies Who we Are; possibly the best album released in 2007 segued from a maturing self-titled Lifehouse.
Whether this album truly deserves five stars (because I know someone is thinking I'm just a person who loves Lifehouse) should not be debated in regard to rating truly great music. If you just think Lifehouse is great because you heard them on the radio a couple of times, try listening to the lyrics closely (and don't automatically give it a "five"). Any real Lifehouse fans knows of Jason Wade[lead singer]'s deep lyrics from his religious background and feelings toward life. In No Name Face and Stanley Climbfall came the young group eager to express; and I know everyone has heard "Hanging On A Moment". The sounds of this album seem to come more directly from earlier works then from the self-titled Lifehouse (possibly too slow, at least for me). Highlighting the stronger sound of Who We Are comes songs you've heard, First Time and Whatever It Takes; though I believe the best music comes from a deep and intricate "Storm" and "The Joke", with slower verses ascending to an upbeat chorus, emphasizing the extremities of Jason Wade's voice. I may be a little late on a review of an album (why doesn’t it have more than like 100 reviews yet) I bought the day it was released, solely from my interest in their previous album. Yet I found an outstanding sounding rock album; which should not be passed without a listen.
In regard to similar sounding albums, I was referring to a new sounding (happy, really) Matchbox Twenty, no "If You're Gone" in this one, and a very mature sounding Tom DeLonge in A&A (album: I-Empire), a must-listen for true blink-182 fans.
Amazing!!!
If I could I would listen to their songs all day. Lifehouse is beyond fantastic. Their songs are breath-taking and have meaning.
