iTunes Review

"An irresistible collection of surging rockers and soft-burning ballads, 1975's Fleetwood Mac captures the soaring spirit of a band on the rise. It took the album's namesake eight years to achieve its commercial breakthrough, but once Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham signed on, there was no stopping the Mac. All the elements fell into place on this album: Buckingham's fluent guitar touch meshed with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie's rock-solid rhythmic base, with Christine McVie providing flowing keyboard lines and the entire group achieving a luminous vocal blend. Nicks' spellbinding ""Rhiannon"" and bittersweet ""Landslide"" launched her into the stratosphere of rock stardom. Christine McVie's sensuous ""Warm Waves"" and ""Say You Love Me"" were equally enticing. Buckingham's tunes — particularly the bluegrass-tinged ""Monday Morning"" — added yet another distinctive color. Fleetwood Mac has a vitality and magic that's undimmed by time."

This self-titled album preceded "Rumors," but in my opinion is equally as enjoyable. Smash hits include Rhiannon (the witches song) and Over My Head, The typical Fleetwood fun is here in Monday Morning, Blue Letter, Say You Love Me, and World Turning. All of these are classic 70's pop-rock. I like the hidden gems of Warm Ways and Crystal. There was always a lilting quality in the softer songs by Fleetwood Mac, and their goods are here in spades. Great memories of stadium concerts!

This album is not my favorite, but it is pretty good. It was really setting the stage for the highly acoustic stylings of the famed Rumours album two years later. This self-titled release is very warm and soothing and there are really no hard rock numbers, so it is good to relax to or for a dinner party. The standout tracks on here, for me, are Warm Ways, Rhiannon, Landslide, and World Turning.

Why is "Monday Morning" an album-only track? I love the band - I have most of these songs already from other albums. No way am I buying them all again for this one track! Come on, Warner Brothers! Get with the program.

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a...
