More often than not, live albums are little more than keepsakes for diehard fans, but Mute Math’s Flesh and Bones Electric Fun is a definite exception to this rule – there are moments of true revelation and discovery on this DVD soundtrack. On stage, any lingering sense of studio contrivance falls away from these eclectic semi-prog rockers and this crisp and driving combo holds forth with the taut energy of the Police in their early days. Songs like “Collapse,” “Typical,” and “Plan B” unfold with abandon, highlighting the fiery interplay between guitarist Greg Hill and keyboardist Paul Meany. “Obsolete” — a spacey, glimmering tune with ‘70s art-rock overtones – is a showpiece for Roy Mitchell-Cardenas’ molten bass lines. Even more galvanizing is “Break the Same,” a ferociously grooving number that builds into an ensemble rave-up. An unexpected acoustic version of “Reset” closes the album on a transcendent note. Mute Math comes across as artistically ambitious while retaining its club-act intimacy.

This band sounds great recorded, and even greater live!!!!
I purchased the recorded album about 3 months ago. I recently looked into the live album, and It BLEW ME AWAY! The recorded album is probably the best album I have ever heard, and the live album brought me to my knees. 1) In Collapse, I really enjoyed the drumming that led up to the start of the track 2) In Typical, the whole overall track was very intense and consuming. There are a lot of things one can hear in the live track that were covered up in the recorded album. 3) Chaos was spectacular! The bass and drums made an excellent performance might I add... 4) The vocals in Plan B were not as great as in the recorded album, but the guitar made up for it very well. 5) I don't think that I have ever hear a more well done performance of Stare at the Sun. MuteMath was really putting in all their effort on this one. 6) Control, which is personally my favorite song, was the most amazing track on this whole album! I especially loved the extra two minutes of "such a beautiful surrender" the guitar part for the chorus Is probably the most uplifting sound I have ever heard in my life! 7) Stall out was very steady and smoothe. ...almost like a smoothie.... The relaxed beat drove the song all the way to home. 8) Again, the guitar and drums blew my mind in the track Noticed. This is also one of my more favorite tracks. 9) Break the Same had almost a trancelike quality to it. for some reason, you just want to keep listening.... I like how the guitar(or synth) plays these three muted notes all the way through the piece. It is as if that is what is holding it all together. 10) Last but probably my favorite instrumental track ever is Reset. It has modern flowing tone. I describe it as sort of desert-esque... ... if that is a word... All in all: The most amazing thing I have ever heard! EVER!
Buy, Buy, Buy!
Buy this, then go to your nearest record store and order the CD. Once done with that, order the DVD from somewhere and emerse yourself in this band. Then, purchase tickets to see them live with Matchbox Twenty / Alanis and be prepared to have a new favorite band. This collection is a perfect representation of what MM does for thier live audience and is the least you can do to support this seminal act.

mute math are an amazing live act. The whole rythem section make the whole band a band and every song a song. You should buy this and buy the dvd aswell
