Album Review

The freshness is abundant on the first disc from solo artist Paul Wright titled Fly Away. The opus is definitely a hard one to pigeonhole. Wright delivers a package that evokes several different emotional states. Kicking off the disc is the cut "Your Love Never Changes." The tune delivers a feel-good groove that seems to resonate on most every tune. "Crashed Down" is a song mixing hip-hop with some phenomenal rap rantings, while "Fly Away" ventures into a Lenny Kravitz mode quite nicely. One of the disc's optimum statements is the cut "Brighter." The tune's infectious chorus is matched only by the lyrical intensity that Wright spews during the verses. In addition to a being a dancefloor gem, the song is delivered with the swagger of many number one hip-hop chart busters. On Fly Away Paul Wright is the master of the groove, mixing the styles of artists like Toby Mac, John Reuben, and Uncle Kracker into one delectable platter of sweet treats.

Paul's First Is A Must

Paul Wright debuts in this fine-piece of music artistry and fusion. Taking the contemporary Christian genre and mixing it with his love of hip-hop music and groovy reggae sounds and what you have is a wonderful summer-vibe album that is all about loving God and loving life. "Brighter" is the track that keeps you focus on Jesus as you looking for a light in a dark world. "Life After Death" talks about the notion of eternity with Christ in Heaven, and "West Coast Kid" shows Paul's roots as he sings with Gotee Frontman Toby McKeehan. "Fly Away" beautifully sings about the importance of finding a Godly mate. Whatever the topic is, each song is interesting and provides a good way to enjoy yourself and improve your spiritual life. This is a solid album that displays Paul's foundational album and the style he will lay down three albums later. Paul is an honest songwriter, but at the sametime he knows how to have fun and to keep it fresh, just like you were at the beach. A nice side note that some of the songs were produced with a man named Ohmega Watts, a native of Portland, Oregon. Ohmega is an awesome rapper in his own right, so check out his material too. (Songs include of co-production include "Flip Flops" and "Rock the Show")

This whole album just makes me smile. One of my favorites is "Your Love Never Changes". Spiritual, thought-provoking lyrics + amazing melodies = win.
