Great album
When I was a little girl my dad helped produce this album. It took Brian Wilson over 8 hours to record that song - which turned out completely awesome. The other artists we given about an hour and a half - and also turned out awesome. I love that it's a tribute to Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly - a tribute to the working man. U2's Jesus Christ is particularly great - as is the Boss's I Ain't Got No Home and Vigilante Man...ok, I’m not gonna lie, I love the whole album.
"The Meanest Man On The Shiny Iron!"
.."Was Little East Texas Red!".."A Vision Shared" is an appropriate title to this "Terrific Tribute" of a recording! (We too, saw & taped the PBS Special on "The Making Of: A Vision Shared"; well worth seeking out if it comes around again!) All of the artists involved give their own stories & memories of either seeing & playing with or hearing & being influenced by Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly! My Visions: Pretty Boy Floyd; Jesus Christ; The Bourgois Blues & Sylvie! (Equal ammounts of Leadbelly+Woody=A very well-thought out & executed whole of an album!) "Something For The Working Man (and Woman)" to Enjoy!...by Grimmbo.
Sweet Honey!!
We taped this show when it was on PBS years ago and I watched it many, many times. I love the whole thing but particularly love the version of Sylvie that is in the program. Much more slow and sultry than on the album. I can just imagine the horrible sweltering weather the slaves must have been working in. Gives me chills every time.
