Not just for dancers...
As a DJ who plays swing music, I love "For dancers only". Its a terrific album put together by dancers for dancers. While that may not be important for every listener in and of itself, it does convey an important message: this album swings! 'For Dancers Only' goes beyond the toe-tapping or the high energy bouncing of what many people consider "swing"; this is music that makes you want to move: whether dancing in your living room or just vacuuming it. These songs were culled from over 100 albums on the Chiaroscuro label, which is well-known for modern recordings with a slant toward a traditional-jazz feel. Several swing dance DJs worked together to produce a set that represents a variety of styles, but with an upbeat feel throughout. Despite choosing only 13 cuts, many of the tracks are also custom edits, so they are unavailable anywhere else. Hearing Jay McShann doing "I'm gonna sit right down..." -a song made famous by Ella Fitzgerald- is a treat. Joe Williams singing with a modern dixielandish 2/4 feeling is also a surprise. O.C Smith -another Basie singer- is smooth and silky ...and like "Blue Mance", For dancers only" and "Social call", adds great contrast to the album. Enjoy it!
