The first track on this 4 song EP owes quite a lot to Squeeze, and the mature New Wave sound of Split Enz and early Joe Jackson are not far off throughout the remainder of this record. This collection, in fact, sounds weirdly mature - the way sub-Prog popular rock sounded in the late '70s, with complex, wandering melodies, lovely vocal harmonies, the "jazzy" interaction of piano and guitar, and the casual improbability of moving between soft rock and metal at the click of a pedal. The cheeky "Oh, f**k" that immediately prefaces a guitar solo in "It's Always Hard to Admit You're Wrong" is a nice touch, and speaks to this band's comfortable relationship with not being uncomfortable about wailing guitar excursions. Satisfaction somehow finds a way to sound comfortable and accessible without sounding clichéd, and you'll find yourself humming songs immediately, grasping for references that seem incredibly obvious but are ultimately elusive.
