Customer Reviews

Wonderfully Understated

I absolutely love the Frames. However, I will try my best to be honest with this review. The album is a collection of mostly hushed folksie songs with a few louder ones to mix things up a bit. The ablum opens with a suprisingly satisfying instrumental number. The next song (Lay Me Down) is the catchiest Frames song to date in my opinion, starting with cool drum beat and moving into a beautiful song all around. "What Happens When the Heart Just Stops," is a starkly honest song about just not caring anymore after caring too much for too long. Simple and amazing song. "Santa Maria" perhaps showcases what I love The Frames the most for through all of their work. The song starts with one of the coolest chill baselines out there. The song remains subdued through the first half but then explodes into chaos that is barely controlled. Most of the rest of the songs are quiet gems. I would say more but I've likely already said too much! The album is exceptional. It is a rare album that only gets better with each listen.

Red Carpet Music

I feel like the Frames are a VIP club and you can only get it if you have good taste in music. They are so Underrated it's absurd. This is a great album, make no mistake, but tracks 2, 3, and 9 all sound better on the live C.D. (Set List). The mellow tracks on this album are Giving Me Wings, Friends and Foe, and Disappointed and all three are fantastic (Golden Wings is the best though). If you are a fan of the Frames then you know that their ability to express emotions is phenomenal. In this regard, stand-outs are Headlong and Santa Maria, though once again I reccomend the live recording of Santa Maria over this one. That said, no true music lover's collection is complete without the soothing sound of the Frames, whether they be live or not.

ONCE SOUNDTRACK/SWELL SEASON

Same band- from aforementioned Once soundtrack- same singer anyway, and same music. So if you like Swell Season, then you like 'the Frames', therefore, buy this please. Stop listening to the junk on the Radio, smash your Radio, get a Cd player, buy this, burn it, and listen to it in your car. I prefer 'cost' and 'burn the maps', and 'dance the devil' btw, but their all great. Just listen to these guys, thats all i ask, or demand

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s

The Frames are led by Glen Hansard, a Dublin-based singer/songwriter who quit school at age 13 to begin busking on local streets. By 17, he'd borrowed enough money from his parents to record a demo, 50 copies of which were pressed and distributed to family and friends. One of those copies made its way to Island Records' Denny Cordell, who successfully lobbied label founder Chris Blackwell to sign Hansard to the roster. Now signed to a major label, Hansard founded the Frames, taking the name from...
